(This post got lost in draft-land for a few weeks…sorry!!!) Yep, I’ve been “living” here for a while, but it’s been somewhat of a sad existence. Confined to one drafty room shared with a dog that was impossible to keep clean, cooking with nothing but a microwave and single burner camp stove, eating lots and LOTS of prepackaged food – hey, I even discovered how to make hamburger helper in the microwave – and the dreadful walk upstairs through filth to shower. Come to think of it, it wasn’t that different from college. But forget all that, because I made it! As promised, Thanksgiving weekend was move-in weekend for me! The storage unit is totally cleaned out and closed, most of my stuff is in the house, and the rest of my stuff is in the addition – where I used to reside. Continue reading

It’s been a busy few weeks since I finished up my painting stay-cation. Things really seem to be starting to move fast, and the progress is getting more and more visible. Remember how we had just gotten my cabinets when I last left you? Well, the last few that were out of stock came in, and my parents brought them out to my house. Since we haven’t done the floors yet, (which is starting to give me anxiety), dad took his belt sander to the floor where the cabinets would sit so we don’t have to worry about getting some big professional sander right up to the foot of the cabinets when we get to that step. Then the first of the cabinets were set in place. In the kitchen reconfiguration, I’m torn between feeling like I’ve lost cabinet/counter space by having a dead wall and feeling like I’m 100% fine because there will be plenty of continuous countertop and I have an entire pantry for extra storage. In all honesty, I probably have way more cabinet space than I could even possibly fill right now. Continue reading
Don’t get me wrong, I love it. I love, love, LOVE it. I love having it, I love looking at it, I love how it echos. I do not love the dust. Not at all. In fact, I hate it. Yes, I know, hate is a strong word, but I do. I really do. I hate every speck of that horrendous dust. Having had most of the downstairs done, the dust is literally everywhere. It’s on all of my dishes, my coffee maker, and my dry food. It’s in my fridge and under my covers. It’s disgusting. BUT! It means I’m that much closer to paint. Which means I’m that much closer to floors. Therefore, I practically have my trim put back up. And if that’s true, then I basically have my kitchen, too. Continue reading
Hello readers! No, I didn’t abandon you, this blog, or my house. Rather, I’ve been working on a special surprise to share with you. Over the past few silent weeks we’ve been diligently plugging away at my second floor bathroom – a required room for me to move in. I was going to share the updates and progress as we neared completion, but I decided it’d be more fun to hold off and give a big reveal. Today’s the day for that reveal! Be prepared to weep at the beauty and seethe with jealousy at my wonderful, magnificent bathroom. The first complete room in my house. Continue reading
I know it’s been a while since I gave you all an update. Does anyone really read this anyway? Okay, so lots of things have been happening and I’ll do my best to give a quick summary update. First off, I finally have hot water. For the first time in what seems like months.
Well, things have been happening at the farm. Here’s a week in review with pictures!
I had a rather destructive day yesterday, and I find it amusing that in the context of this house, destructive actually means productive. I started by tearing into the 3/4 bath downstairs. The shower and sink both needed to go. The toilet needs to remain functional until another bathroom is ready, lest we be reduced to relieving ourselves in the woods, and I already pointed out that this was not an option because I did not receive the camp trowel I requested for Christmas or my birthday this year.
